Location: Five locations across the US, primarily in the Southeast and Southwest Client: National Surgery Centers
"FH Design is creative and efficient. Our projects involved unique spaces, - one was a historic building, while the other was an open shell. The challenge was making each space functional for a myriad of clients and needs, while also creating a unique space for each location. We didn’t want anything cookie-cutter. FH Design did all of the above beautifully."
Project management, architecture, interior design, and furniture procurement and installation.
Renovation of two existing buildings with no square footage additions.
Renovation with expansion in two existing buildings.
New construction for a fifth building.
Space requirements for each facility included a surgery suite (8,000 – 10,000 SF with two Class C operating rooms in each center); pre- and post-operative and support facilities; IVF laboratory (800 – 1,000 SF).
Establish a consistent corporate brand for use in each facility while incorporating local aesthetics to each location to maintain individual identity.
Open two facilities within a thirty day period.
One facility was located in a flood plain with an extensive water retainage system along the front of the property. It was a tight site with a severely damaged building from Hurricane Katrina.
Fh Design was on-site at the two facilities every day for almost three months to keep construction on track.
Remained on site to facilitate move-in and opening. Immediate follow through on punch lists for quick resolution of any operational issues.
Consistent and constant communication with local officials to understand codes and work through issues immediately.
Developed standards for equipment, furniture, and interior finishes for use in all facilities.
Developed extensive artwork program. In some cases, local artists were commissioned to create custom pieces. In other locations, artwork reflected a regional flavor.
Bi-weekly coordination meetings.
How the FH Design Process Benefited the Client
By digging into the needs of each user of the facility – physicians, nurses, staff, and patients – FH Design delivered a program that could be adapted to individual facilities while still providing a high level of care in even the most critical cases. FH Design was able to make each space functional for a myriad of clients and needs – patients, physicians, and caregivers (doctors, nurses, and the professional team). Spaces were branded with the national surgery center’s look to meet their clients’ expectations, creating a beautiful and comfortable environment that flowed well, met codes, and supported physicians and nurses in the delivery of quality of care – while creating a unique space for each location, not a cookie-cutter design.
“We chose FH Design because they know what they are doing and are experts in the field. David, Marjorie, and the team brought a knowledge of standards and experience to the projects. FH Design has a way of incorporating function and beautiful design into an end product that works for everybody.”
– Brenda Lepley, National Surgery Centers
"Knowledge and experience is a key factor. The team hit the ground running and knew what needed to be done. FH Design demonstrated an ability to understand their client’s need, while creating a unique environment."
